A Business Broker will need to have some knowledge of reading financial statements, doing recasts and be able to perform a basic business valuation in order to help give the seller some reasonable expectations about what a business might be worth. A Business Broker will also be familiar with various financing options including seller financing and bank loans backed by SBA (Small business Administration) funding. A Business Broker will have basic knowledge of investment visas for foreign buyers. Often buyers from Treaty countries will buy a business to obtain an E-2 or L-1 visa so they may live and work in the United States.

Most importantly a successful Business Broker will have a professional demeanor, enjoy working with people in the transfer and sale of a business and be a self starter when it comes to marketing, cold calling and generating leads.

Out of pocket expenses to get started are extremely low compared to becoming a Realtor, although qualified individuals developing a career as a Business Brokerage will need to make sure they have some cash reserves or other income sources to cover daily living expenses as they build their business. Usually a cash reserve to cover 6 months to a year is advisable.

A career as a Business Broker will require that you have, or obtain, a Florida Real Estate sales associate license and have an extreme desire to succeed.

Attending a Florida Real Estate school and having a Florida Real Estate Sales Associate license is a basic requirement for becoming a Florida Business Broker. As a Florida Business Broker, associates need to follow the Real Estate licensing law for selling businesses in Florida.
